The government has expanded the “Student Package” program: support for the purchase of books for first-graders

The Government of Ukraine has approved changes to the “Schoolchild’s Package” program, which allows the received assistance to be used not only for stationery and clothing, but also for the purchase of textbooks.

This became known thanks to the statement of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on Telegram.

As of October 1, 2025, the program will be expanded to include the purchase of books for first-graders, allowing parents to be more flexible with the costs of one-time assistance.

This initiative was implemented by the government on August 18, 2025, to support families sending their children to first grade. To date, approximately 131,000 families have received assistance.

Previously, funds could be spent exclusively on school supplies, clothing, and footwear. Now, parents can also purchase books, which will contribute to the development of their children’s reading and educational activities. The assistance can be used within 180 days after its receipt.

The government is working on further changes to the program so that Ukrainian families can also receive financial support for the purchase of books, supplementing the traditional set of stationery, school uniforms, and shoes.

In the first stage of the program, funding covered 86,000 families, who were paid 430 million hryvnias – approximately 35% of the approved budget. Soon, another 18 thousand families will be able to receive this assistance.

Families who sent their children to first grade this year will have the opportunity to easily decide how to spend the 5,000 hryvnias allocated by the state for school supplies, clothing, and shoes.
