Kyiv City Council meeting canceled due to Klitschko’s resignation proposal

The session of the Kyiv City Council, scheduled for September 25, was canceled the day after the project for the early dismissal of Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko was registered.

The decision to cancel the meeting was made after the city council received a project that provides for the early termination of the mayor’s powers. According to the order issued on September 15, the planned meeting was declared invalid, and this information must be communicated to the deputies and the community. Thus, the plenary session will not take place.

Kyiv City Council Deputy Andriy Vitrenko spoke in support of the initiative to dismiss Vitaliy Klitschko early, announcing the submission of the project decision on his Telegram channel. He emphasized that his actions are not political in nature, but are a response to the fact that the capital’s authorities are working inefficiently.

Vitrenko criticizes the city hall for ignoring the decisions of the Kyiv City Council and neglecting the interests of city residents. In his opinion, only companies close to the administration benefit, while the city finds itself in decline. He noted that the capital’s authorities are struggling to cope with the challenges associated with the war and cannot promptly resolve issues related to security, transportation, heat supply, and infrastructure.

The deputy also believes that many initiatives are either ignored or implemented at a minimal level. According to him, leadership positions are often occupied by individuals who are not specialists in the relevant fields, but rather by those loyal to the mayor. As a result, the activities of local authorities have turned into showy measures instead of real solutions to urgent problems, including emergency roads and disorderly development.

Vitrenko believes that Kyiv needs a new leader who can work effectively for the benefit of the community.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko assessed the actions of the Verkhovna Rada and the president’s signature on the withdrawal of 8 billion hryvnias from the capital’s budget as a real “robbery” of the city.
