Пенсійний статус не забезпечує спокою: хто з пенсіонерів підлягає мобілізації вже зараз

Retirement status does not provide peace of mind: which pensioners are subject to mobilization now?

The situation in Ukraine, where the war is ongoing, has become not only long-term but also demanding changes in mobilization policy. Even retirement age is no longer a factor that automatically exempts one from military service.

Today, mobilization legislation indicates that some pensioners in Ukraine can receive summonses.

Why does age not prevent mobilization?

In fact, exemption from mobilization depends not only on the availability of a pension but also on age and health. For men who have reached the age of 60, this may not be a reason to avoid service. Younger men, especially those with military service experience or required specialties, may be eligible for inclusion in the reserve.

This is especially true for military personnel, who can be called up based on their specialty and experience. Calling up for other positions is prohibited, but the demand for specialists is increasing, and more and more people are receiving summonses.

Who is subject to mobilization

The most likely to receive summonses are men of retirement age, typically those under 60, who have military experience or technical/medical skills applicable to the army. According to the Pension Fund, there are approximately 160,000 military pensioners in Ukraine who may be formally subject to mobilization.

Women who have acquired a military specialty and have not reached the age limit may also receive summonses, but this depends on their health and the nature of their profession.

Who is protected

There are categories of people who will not be affected by mobilization even during war. These are persons with disabilities, those who take care of incapacitated relatives, as well as citizens with confirmed serious illnesses or special services to the state. For such persons, full exemption or deferment from service is provided.

Contract after 60 years

Interestingly, Ukrainians who have crossed the 60-year mark can independently sign a contract with the Armed Forces, without waiting for a summons. This is possible on their own initiative, provided they pass a medical examination. In 2025, many former military personnel took advantage of this right.

Conclusion for pensioners

Pension status is no longer a guarantee of peace. If you are under 60 years old and have military experience, you should prepare supporting documents regarding your health or any potential reasons for a postponement. And if you feel ready, you can determine the time and conditions of returning to service yourself.

Thus, Ukraine utilizes all available resources, and retirement age becomes a new opportunity for individuals to make a choice that suits them.
