Conflicts in school cafeterias: new food rules for students

Parents of students in Mykolaiv appealed to the city council with complaints about the organization of meals in educational institutions. After that, an inspection of the quality of food in schools was launched, as reported by the publication “Suspilne”.

In response to numerous appeals from parents, the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Senkevych, tasked the commission with checking the quality of food. As a result of the inspection, no serious violations were found, but it was decided to update the menu by replacing dishes that are not popular among children. At the same time, their calorie content will be maintained.

The inspection, organized by the mayor from September 15 to 18, indicated that changes are necessary for part of the menu. “By September 25, temporary school directors will evaluate the four-week menu, after which adjustments will be made. We will remove dishes that children do not eat and offer alternatives, while maintaining the calorie content and cooking technology in accordance with resolution No. 305,” said Deputy Mayor Anatoly Petrov.

In addition, he noted that it is necessary to improve the kitchen equipment. In his opinion, for high-quality cooking, modern steam convection ovens are needed, capable of cooking 200 to 400 portions at a time, but their cost is relatively high.

The commission that inspected the food consisted of representatives of the City Council, the State Service for the Supervision of Food Safety and Consumer Protection, and parents. During the inspection, the commission members tasted the dishes and monitored the quality of the products used to prepare lunches.

“We tasted the food, documented the process with photographs, checked the food units and storage conditions of the products. In general, there were no serious problems, but two schools had minor shortcomings in the preparation. The dishes are tasty, but their appearance can be improved,” Petrov noted.

Improving the quality of food in schools will continue, and the commission plans regular inspections.
