Will the quality of life increase? The Cabinet of Ministers is working on updating an important indicator

The Government of Ukraine plans to adjust the methodology for determining the subsistence minimum, which is the leading indicator for social standards and payments. This was announced by Serhiy Marchenko, Minister of Finance, during the Question Hour to the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada.

According to him, in the draft state budget for 2026, the subsistence minimum will be 3,209 hryvnias per person. This indicator is used not only for social guarantees, but also for calculating various types of state assistance.

Planned changes

Marchenko noted that the Cabinet of Ministers, together with the Ministry of Social Policy, is working on “modernizing” this indicator. The goal is to separate it from additional charges that do not correspond to reality and create a more objective criterion that reflects the real standard of living in Ukraine.

The Minister also emphasized that increasing the subsistence minimum is one of the government’s priorities, and appropriate measures will be taken.

Recall that the subsistence minimum was last reviewed on January 1, 2024, setting it at 2,920 hryvnias. The government is confident that a further increase in this indicator is an essential step towards improving the quality of life of the population.
