30% підтримали правлячу проєвропейську партію, – коментар журналіста про молдаван у Придністров'ї

30% supported the ruling pro-European party, – journalist’s comment on Moldovans in Transnistria

In the program “Dialogues,” Ruslan Bortnyk spoke with journalist Vladimir Solovyov, who raised the issue of how residents of Transnistria perceive themselves. According to him, these people are always believed to support Russia, but in reality, their opinions differ. Social surveys are conducted there, but the results are not published, and only the Moldovan election results can give an idea of their views.

Solovyov noted that in the last elections, 12,017 voters from Transnistria cast 51% of the votes for the pro-Russian bloc, while 30% voted for the pro-European party. The remaining votes were distributed between different political forces that also positioned themselves as pro-European.

According to the journalist, the residents of Transnistria have different political views and consider themselves citizens of Moldova, despite the complicated voting process. Solovyov shared that while working at polling stations during the presidential elections, he asked people about their motivations for voting, and received answers that they considered Moldova their home.

He believes that the current policy could harm the reintegration process, as many financial projects were aimed at strengthening trust between the two shores. Today, according to him, the Moldovan authorities are limiting voting opportunities for those living in uncontrolled territories —an ill-considered decision, since there is no law prohibiting such citizens from participating in elections.
