The war in Ukraine could end in a few months, expert claims

The fighting in Ukraine may either end in the coming months or last up to a year. An essential factor in ending the conflict is China’s position. This was stated by the executive director of the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation, Dmytro Zhmaylo, in an interview.

According to the expert, if China decides to stop supporting Russia and reaches an agreement with the United States, the predictions about the end of the war made by the head of the Mykolaiv OVA, Vitaly Kim, may well come true. At the same time, if North Korea also announces its readiness to support these conditions, the situation may improve.

Zhmaylo noted that in this case, the Russians will realize that continuing the war is no longer in their interests and will resort to freezing the conflict. Moscow may begin seeking diplomatic concessions, for example, on the legalization of the Russian language in Ukraine or the strengthening of the influence of the Moscow Patriarchate. That is, the regime may move on to a long political campaign. Such events may occur within two months.

At the same time, if Russia continues to receive assistance from China in the form of technology, equipment, and specialists, the conflict could drag on for at least a year. This support would allow the Russian economy and army to avoid a rapid collapse.

The other side of the conflict —including Ukraine’s actions, the United States’ response, and the positions of European countries —will also significantly affect the duration of the war. Zhmaylo emphasized that the situation is complex, and none of the leaders can accurately predict when the war will end.

The expert emphasized that without external assistance and with the continuation of an aggressive course, Russia could face serious internal problems in about a year. In particular, this could lead to a decrease in drone and military use due to financial difficulties, and attempts to conduct mass mobilization could trigger an internal crisis.

In conclusion, Zhmaylo noted that although the Russians can continue to fight to the last Ukrainian, their readiness does not entail unlimited resources. Possible scenarios for the development of events depend on calls for action from other countries and on how each participant responds to changes in the international situation.
