“The Darkest Winter”: Ukrainians are informed about possible blackouts, cold in apartments and the hardest season

Ukraine is preparing for its most difficult heating season since the start of the full-scale war. Authorities are concerned about possible mass power outages, heat cuts, and complete blackouts across the country.

Such measures are associated with constant missile attacks by Russia on the country’s energy infrastructure. In recent weeks, facilities in several regions have been damaged, and the consequences are already being felt. In particular, on October 10, there was a large-scale shelling of energy facilities, resulting in numerous power outages, especially in the areas of CHPP 5 and CHPP-6.

Many districts of Kharkiv were left without electricity, prompting indignation among residents. The energy situation has also become more complicated in Chernihiv and Sumy regions.

Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov expressed his concern:

“Russia is trying to systematically destroy Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which will complicate preparations for the winter heating season.”

He noted that maintaining utility operations in such conditions will be extremely difficult, but for local authorities, it remains a top priority.

Energy experts predict that Kharkiv may face the coldest and darkest winter in recent years. If the attacks continue, regular outages may occur.

Head of the Union of Consumers of Public Utilities, Oleg Popenko, notes:

“A shortage of heat supply may accompany the winter months due to possible problems with fuel supply, which threatens the stability of the entire heating season.”

People’s Deputy Roman Kostenko also expressed concern:

“There is a risk of blackouts, which this year may lead to power and heating shutdowns.”

Parliamentarians note that the coming months could be among the most difficult for the population. However, despite all the risks, energy professionals and local authorities continue to work to strengthen energy resilience so that the country can withstand the darkness and cold.
