Parent chat rooms banned in schools: “They promote hostility and cause nervousness”

In Ukraine, parents are already accustomed to the active use of messengers to communicate with schools. There are chats with teachers, without them, for clubs and others – this is a common thing for many mothers and fathers.

However, in other countries the situation looks different. Ukrainian Zosia Zosim, who lives in Spain, shared her experience on the social network Threads, noting that parent chats are not welcome at her child’s school.

“Yesterday, at a parent meeting at my son’s school, the teacher directly asked not to create parent chats in messengers. According to him, all issues can be resolved directly with the teacher or the administration, and chats only cause misunderstandings and stress. If parents create such chats, it is at their own peril and risk, and the teacher categorically does not recommend this,” Zosia shared her opinion.

Many people who read her post noted that they are familiar with a similar approach in their countries.

“In Canada, there are also no parent chats. There are only teachers’ work email addresses, which they check during work. Parents need to make an appointment for a meeting, and then in the presence of the administration. Parents do not come to the school at all,” wrote one commentator.

“We also do not have chats at school. All communication is via email and personal meetings. This is much better, because Ukrainian parent chats often cause nervousness,” added another.

Some noted that a break from parent chats can have a positive effect on children’s psychology.

“I support this initiative! My children did not have a single parent chat, and all issues were easily resolved either through the teacher, or information was transmitted through the children,” emphasized another commentator.

According to others, despite the absence of parent chats in certain educational institutions in Spain, such chats actually exist, although with a different format.

“There are parent chats that are created by Spanish parents themselves, but the topics of discussion are not emotional,” wrote one parent.

“My Spanish school also has parent chats, but in three years of study there have never been any quarrels. All issues are discussed calmly, for example, regarding children’s clothes or organizing excursions,” noted another mother.

Earlier, it was reported about the importance of communication between parents and teachers, because they often face various difficulties associated with interaction in the educational process.
