The director of “The Godfather” put his luxury watches up for sale after the failure of the film “Megalopolis

The famous Hollywood director Francis Ford Coppola, 86, is facing financial difficulties following the release of his new project, “Megalopolis”.

To support his studio and team, he decided to sell part of his luxury watch collection, which includes unique pieces he designed himself. Blik reports this.

Francis Ford Coppola, the author of the cult trilogy “The Godfather”, announced the sale of his watch collection. As noted by The New York Times, the director suffered significant financial losses after the premiere of Megalopolis.

“I need some money to support my activities. Although many of my films start to bring in income only after a while, it’s different now,” Coppola emphasized.

The most valuable lot in the collection is the FP Journe watch, made in 2014 at Coppola’s individual order. Its starting price at the Phillips auction will be $1 million, and the auction is scheduled for December 6.

In addition, the director will exhibit seven more models, priced from $3,000 to $240,000. Coppola noted that these watches have not only financial, but also emotional value for him.

Despite the difficulties, Coppola decided not to sell his film “Megalopolis” to streaming platforms. He emphasized that this project is intended for the big screen, not for TVs or mobile screens.

It is worth noting that a similar situation has already happened in Coppola’s career. In 1982, after filming the musical “From the Heart”, he also found himself on the verge of bankruptcy because he had financed the tape and lost a significant part of his funds.

Today, Francis Ford Coppola hopes that the sale of the collection will allow him to keep his own studio and continue his creative work, despite the failure of the new film.
