Explosions in two cars on the border with Belarus – five people killed

On October 31, two deadly explosions occurred in the Zhytomyr region, near the border with Belarus, injuring UAZ and ZIL vehicles that had encountered explosive devices in a forest area.

The tragedies occurred in the north of the Zhytomyr region, where mines blew up two vehicles, the regional police reported.

According to initial information, these incidents occurred when residents changed their routes without authorization and drove into areas marked with mine danger signs.

The first case involved a UAZ vehicle carrying forestry workers. The driver decided to deviate from the route and drove into a prohibited area, which led to the explosion of a mine. Unfortunately, as a result of this incident, five men aged 19 to 65 died, and two more, aged 25 and 40, were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity.

In the second case, a ZIL truck transporting forest products also ran over an explosive device that occurred in a neighboring forest. A 32-year-old resident of the Korosten district was injured and urgently hospitalized.

Police officers note that entry into and stay in the border zone, especially within 30 km of the border, are strictly prohibited. These territories may be mined, and any violation of the rules can lead to tragic consequences.

Law enforcement officers urge citizens to heed the warning signs “Stop! Mines!” and not take risks by entering prohibited areas of the forest.
