Monobank fraudulent bots have become active on Telegram and Ukrainians are at risk: how to protect your funds

In Ukraine, there has been an increase in the activity of fraudsters who create fake Monobank accounts and chatbots to steal users’ money and personal data. The bank calls on its customers to be careful, informs BRAMA.

The fraudulent scheme works as follows:

The user tries to find the official Monobank bot, but comes across a fake resource.
The pseudo-bot, posing as a bank representative, offers to confirm transactions or conduct an account security check and requests information about the card, logins, passwords, and SMS codes.
Having received this data, the fraudsters steal money, and the user loses access to their account.
To avoid falling into the hands of fraudsters, Monobank provides several recommendations:

Use only the official bot: @monobankbot;
Check the URL and the bot’s name with special attention.
Never provide your card details, passwords, or SMS codes to third parties;
To carry out financial transactions, use only the bank’s official application or website.
The bank emphasizes that it never requests passwords or confirmation codes through third-party resources.

Recently, it became known that Ukrainian blogger and entrepreneur Ksyusha Maneken became a victim of a similar fraudulent scheme, losing more than 6 million hryvnias to a fake chatbot posing as Monobank support. The blogger was looking for an official bot to check her card information, but accidentally gave her data to the fraudsters.

In response to the incident, Monobank noted that the client violated financial security rules by contacting an unreliable source and that it is currently working with law enforcement agencies to investigate the case.
