Bedbugs have invaded trees in the center of Kyiv — what facts are known about them?

A massive accumulation of unusual insects known as linden bugs has been recorded in Kyiv. Residents of the city are actively publishing photos showing how these small black insects cover the bark of trees in a dense layer. They are most often observed on linden trees, which gave this group of insects their name.

The impressive number of insects can cause concern, but experts assure that this is a natural phenomenon that should not be feared. The linden bug is not dangerous to people or trees.

This insect does not bite, does not carry diseases, and does not harm vegetation. In the fall, it looks for a warm place to hibernate, often hiding in tree bark or cracks in buildings. As temperatures drop and cold weather approaches, bugs gather in large groups, giving the impression of an “invasion”.

They are mainly found in shaded areas or in parks with many linden trees. These trees serve as their home before wintering.

Residents of Kyiv are asked not to panic and not to resort to independent attempts to combat insects. There is no point in destroying linden bugs, because they do not harm the ecosystem. As real cold weather approaches, most of them will disappear naturally.

Environmentalists recommend avoiding the use of chemicals, as they can harm nearby species. The linden bug is part of the natural balance, and its appearance in the fall is quite typical for our region.

In addition, a complicated epidemic season is being recorded in Ukraine: new, dangerous strains of influenza are spreading rapidly, and the mortality rate has reached 2%. Doctors draw attention to the seriousness of the situation because the virus can penetrate the lungs and lead to fatal consequences on the 5th or 6th day of the disease.
