The US is introducing new rules for Ukrainians: payments will be useful to everyone

Ukrainians who have received humanitarian status in the United States through the “Uniting for Ukraine” program will be required to pay a $1,000 fee to extend their status. This innovation comes into effect on October 16, as announced by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.

This payment is mandatory for all those with humanitarian status, including Ukrainian refugees. Suppose the term of their humanitarian admission expires after October 16, 2025, when applying for an extension (re-parole). In that case, state authorities will send instructions with details on the fee payment for each program participant, regardless of age.

Low-income individuals may be exempt from the payment fee, but such cases are considered on a case-by-case basis and require confirmation of the applicant’s financial situation. Also, the cost is not charged in cases that fall under humanitarian or socially essential categories.

To extend humanitarian admission status for a term ending after October 16, 2025, it is best to apply no earlier than 180 days before the end of your current status. The fee is not payable at the time of application, but only after you have actually received your parole. Failure to pay on time may result in your extension being denied.
