Data will be collected from Ukrainians during home visits

A new stage of population registration has begun in the Kyiv region, called “household registration”. Specially authorized persons will conduct measurements in settlements, registering who lives in households, when houses were built, and what types of animals are kept. Locals joke that they may soon start counting chickens and geese.

This initiative was implemented in the Dymer community. From November 1 to December 31, the administration is collecting data to update local accounting books. It is reported that the change in Dymer’s status from an urban-type settlement to an ordinary settlement obliged the Main Department of Statistics to conduct a population census.

At first, residents suspected that this might be related to data collection for the military commissariat or other special services. However, community representatives hastened to reassure the population, noting that the information would not be transferred to the CIA, MOSDAD, or SBU. The authorized persons will have official ID cards, and, according to the authorities, the collected data will be sent only to the State Statistics Service.

Lawyers emphasize that residents are not obliged to disclose their personal data, let representatives into their yards, or show documents. Private property is inviolable, and access to it is prohibited without the owner’s permission.

Lawyers note that such ledgers were previously used in inheritance cases, as they contained important information about residents. However, now, in conditions of war, people have reason to be concerned about the use of the new data.

The authorities insist that this is only a statistical activity, but residents, noting a decrease in trust, are cautious about disclosing information about their households and pets.
