Ukraine has prepared new fines for drivers: what violations will be punished
Patrol police inspectors in Ukraine have become more active in checking cars imported from the USA. The main reason for these actions is non-compliance of these vehicles’ technical characteristics with the national DSTU standards. This became known thanks to information from “Your Car”.
The most frequently detected violation concerns the color of the rear turn signals. According to American standards, they can be red, while in Ukraine, it is clearly stated that the signals must be yellow. This difference is noticeable to patrol officers and has prompted the drafting of administrative protocols, as noted by specialists from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Auto lawyer Oleksandr M. explains: “The police do not look for a reason to stop. If the turn signals are red, this is automatically considered a violation of technical standards. Therefore, inspectors draw up a resolution in accordance with Part 2 of Article 122 of the Code of Administrative Offenses”.
A fine of 510 hryvnias is provided for such a violation. It should be noted that this amount may seem small, but the problem is quite common: American car owners often encounter similar regulations more than once. Modifying optics is also not a trivial matter – in many cases, it is enough to replace only the bulb, and you need to process the shades or even entire headlight units. The cost of such work can amount to thousands of hryvnias.
Experts advise against postponing the solution to this problem. Changing the color of turn signals will cost less than paying regular fines and, at the same time, increase road safety – after all, red signals can confuse other drivers, which can lead to traffic accidents.
