Poland has been supporting Ukrainian refugees for the past year

Polish President Karol Nawrocki has announced the signing of a law supporting Ukrainian citizens, saying it was his last major action in this area without significant changes. Speaking at an event marking his first 100 days in office, he stressed that he had introduced amendments to remove clauses that were “unfair to Poles.”

He explained that the previous version of the law, which he received for signature in August, contained provisions on payments to unemployed Ukrainians under the “800+” program, which he opposed. After making the amendments, the President signed a new version of the law, which extends the legal status of Ukrainian refugees until March 4, 2026, but sets stricter requirements for receiving social benefits.

Nawrocki stressed that his decision to sign the law for the second time was an effort to avoid chaos, and he hopes that the government is working to ensure the well-being of Ukrainian citizens in Poland. He also stressed the importance of respecting the Ukrainian minority in the country.

The President expressed confidence that the government should resolve issues related to migrant stays to avoid potential problems next year.
