Ukrainian Armed Forces strike on Novorossiysk forced Russia to stop exporting 2.2 million barrels of oil

The Ukrainian strike on the Novorossiysk port damaged ships and an oil depot, halting oil exports indefinitely.

The attack on the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk led to the suspension of Russia’s oil exports. According to Reuters, the volume of stopped supplies is about 2.2 million barrels per day, which corresponds to about 2% of world exports. This was one of the most potent attacks on Russian oil infrastructure in recent months.

According to the General Staff of Ukraine, the strike was carried out with Neptune cruise missiles and various drones. This is part of the overall effort to weaken the aggressor’s military and economic capabilities.

The night before, Ukrainian forces also carried out attacks on an oil refinery in the Saratov region and a fuel storage facility in the Engels area. During this operation, two oil berths at the Sheskharis terminal, which service tankers with a deadweight of up to 140,000 tons, were damaged. The Sierra Leone-flagged oil tanker Arlan was also damaged.

In addition, residential buildings, an oil depot, a ship docked, and several containers at the terminal were damaged. Three crew members were injured and hospitalized.

Transneft suspended oil transportation to the port. At the same time, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium also briefly suspended operations, but shipments resumed after the air alert was lifted.

On the night of November 14, the Krasnodar Territory was hit by a massive drone attack, causing damage to several settlements, including Novorossiysk, Tuapse, Gelendzhik, and Anapa.
