Тимчасово захоплена ЗАЕС залишилася без основного джерела електрики

The temporarily occupied Zapadnaya NPP was left without its main source of electricity.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is under temporary occupation, has been operating with only one power line since November 14 due to the disconnection of the main power line, increasing the risk to radiation safety and the likelihood of new outages.

Energoatom reported that since November 14 at 16:18 Kyiv time, the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP has lost external power from the main 750 kV power line “ZAES – Dniprovska”, which is critically important for the plant’s power supply.

Currently, the electricity needed for the plant’s operation is supplied solely through one additional line, which significantly increases the risk to the facility’s stable, safe operation.

Energoatom warns of an increased threat to the plant’s operation due to the loss of the main power line. In the event of a complete power outage, an eleventh power outage could occur, posing a serious threat to radiation safety.

After four weeks of complete power outage, repairs to the power lines at the occupied ZNPP began on October 18, made possible by temporary ceasefires.

The Ukrainian side has claimed that the Russian side deliberately disconnected the plant from the power grid and obstructed the repairs. The IAEA has noted that representatives of both sides cooperated with them during the implementation of a complex plan for both repairs and joint work.

In previous shutdowns, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga has noted that they occurred in the context of the Kremlin’s plans to connect the plant to its power grid.
