Long power outages inevitable for Ukrainians this winter

Extended power outages are becoming a reality. If this winter turns out to be frosty, power outages may be prolonged. MP Serhiy Nagornyak expressed this opinion during an interview on “Ranok.LIVE.

The MP noted that the pace of introducing new energy infrastructure capacities is insufficient, while the actions of the Russian aggressors significantly exceed the speed of restoration.

In addition, there is a problem with the improper definition of critically essential facilities. Thus, some hospitals in the Cherkasy region did not appear on the appropriate list because they are connected to powerful lines where consumption by other users significantly exceeds the needs of medical institutions. This leads to delays in connecting hospitals to the power grid or their complete lack of electricity.

“It is important that today the criteria are correctly defined so that regional military administrations and ministries, first of all, indicate hospitals as critical infrastructure facilities,” the debater emphasized.

Experts also warn that this winter will be different from the previous two years of the war, mainly because of the preparedness. The Russians have not changed their terrorist tactics, but Ukrainian energy and air defense forces are now more prepared for attacks, so total blackouts, they say, should not be expected.

The experts emphasized that previous winters came as a surprise because no one expected massive attacks on civilian infrastructure. However, this year, Ukraine will be able to avoid situations that could lead to a complete blackout.
