In some Ukrainian schools, the winter holidays will be extended: the specified cities
In Ukraine, schools can independently determine the structure and duration of the educational process. The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine recommends that academic institutions; however, some schools have decided to cancel the autumn vacation to extend the winter vacation.
According to the order, students will go on winter vacation at the end of December and return to school in mid-January. Here are examples of the terms of the winter holidays in different cities:
Kyiv: from December 25 to January 11;
Lviv: from December 24 to January 11;
Dnipro: from December 27 to January 11;
Odesa: from December 19 to January 12;
Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Vinnytsia: from December 27 to January 11;
Chernivtsi: from December 24 to January 6;
Poltava: from December 29 to January 9;
Mykolaiv: from December 29 to January 11;
Rivne, Uzhhorod: from December 20 to January 4;
Lutsk: from December 25 to January 7;
Ivano-Frankivsk: from December 22 to January 11.
The new academic year 2025-2026 will begin on September 1, 2025, and end on June 30, 2026. During this time, schools can independently plan educational processes. Each school’s management has the right to determine the structure and duration of the school year, as well as the dates of vacations.
Education authorities may offer approximate holiday dates for schools in their regions, but it is up to schools to decide whether to follow these guidelines or their own timetable. The vacation duration for students cannot be less than 30 calendar days during the academic year.
It is also worth noting that, given the country’s security situation, the educational process in the regions can be adjusted in accordance with the circumstances of war.
