When will winter holidays begin in Ukrainian schools and how long will they last?

During the academic year, Ukrainian schools plan four rest periods, and students are now preparing for winter vacation.

According to Resolution No. 1003 of the Cabinet of Ministers, the new academic year begins on September 1 and ends on June 30. Depending on needs, each educational institution can independently determine the schedule of the educational process, including the dates of the end of classes and the beginning of vacations. The pedagogical council makes the final decision.

According to the indicative schedule approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, winter vacations in the 2025–2026 academic year are planned from December 27, 2025, to January 11, 2026. However, these dates may vary depending on the specific educational institution.

Due to frequent power outages, the Ministry of Education proposed extending the winter vacations by shortening the spring vacations and adding one school day to the week. The final decision again remains with each educational institution.

According to the Department of Education, in the capital’s schools, the holidays will begin on December 25 and return to school on January 11.

In Ivano-Frankivsk, the winter holidays will start on December 22, with the same return date – January 11.

In Rivne, students will have a break from December 20 to January 4.

Several regions, including Chernivtsi, Poltava, Kirovohrad, and Odesa, have postponed their autumn holidays to extend the winter vacation period.

Vacation dates may vary even within the same region, so parents and students should not forget to check the schedule directly with educational institutions.

Increasing social protection for families raising children with disabilities is also being discussed.
