How and which pensioners can apply for a pension increase

In Ukraine, some pensioners can currently receive an extraordinary pension recalculation, determined by law under certain conditions.

Every year, Ukrainian pensioners experience a major pension indexation. As reported by the Pension Fund, those who continued working after retirement and paid contributions can update their pension payments every 2 years.

The recalculation occurs automatically from April 1, and updated payments will begin to arrive from April 4 to 25. However, there is a possibility of receiving an additional payment earlier. Pensioners have the right to apply to the Pension Fund for recalculation if two years have passed since the pension was assigned or its last review, and the next indexation has not yet occurred.

For example, if the pension was assigned in August 2023 and the pensioner continued to work, in September 2025, he will be able to apply for an increase in writing without waiting until April 2026. The amount of the additional payment depends on the amount of contributions paid to the Pension Fund after retirement.

It was previously reported that additional payments are regularly credited to the pension cards of Ukrainians, which came as a surprise to many. It was also noted that some years may be excluded from the pension record, which risks leaving Ukrainians without a pension in 2026. In addition, the possibility of increasing the minimum pension to 9,000 hryvnias was discussed, but not for all pensioners.
