Russia blocks ‘Roblox’ game: the world’s most popular game worth $62 billion has stopped working
On December 3, access issues with Roblox were reported in Russia. Users are having difficulty downloading the game without a VPN. The situation is reminiscent of the blocking of other Internet resources in the aggressor country.
According to information from social networks and Telegram channels, the problems began at around 11 o’clock. Some users cannot enter the game, while others are experiencing technical failures.
Monitoring services record large volumes of complaints about the inability to connect to Roblox servers.
Players note that the application does not open, and the official website issues a connection error message. For many, the only way to access the game remains a VPN, which circumvents Internet service provider blocking.
Despite Roskomnadzor not yet announcing a ban on the platform, justifications for such a ban have been accumulating over the past few months.
Russian officials have long questioned Roblox, seeing it as a “source of danger.” The main complaints have been about the spread of “LGBT propaganda,” content that “contradicts traditional values,” and a lack of control over chat rooms where children communicate.
This situation is ironic because Roblox is not just a game but a huge ecosystem with a market value of more than $62 billion, which is comparable to the budgets of several small countries.
For millions of children, it has been a significant space for socialization and creativity. Blocking such a large platform demonstrates the Kremlin’s willingness to limit access to innovation and entertainment, creating an information vacuum, even if it causes resentment among young people who are now forced to learn how to use a VPN from an early age.
