Project of a new road through Polyanytsia for 28.6 km with a preliminary cost of UAH 6.6 billion

In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, a tender has been announced for the design of a new highway connecting the villages of Bystrytsia and Yablunytsia via Polyanytsia. The relevant information is posted in the Prozorro system. The estimated cost of the design work is UAH 33.7 million, and the construction process itself is estimated at UAH 6.57–6.6 billion.

This tender was published by the Service for the Restoration and Development of Infrastructure of the region on December 3. The technical specification refers to a section 28.6 km long. It is noted that the route passes through Polyanytsia, a popular resort in Bukovel; therefore, the project is proposed as a new approach in this direction. The State Agency for Restoration emphasizes that it is more appropriate to speak of an element of the “Small Carpathian Circle”, since the overall feasibility of the road is still under study.

The publication of the tender sparked public outcry due to the high estimated construction cost and the resort’s potential lobbying interests. Amid criticism, the head of the regional infrastructure service has filed for dismissal. Serhiy Sukhomlyn, head of the State Agency for Reconstruction, confirmed that the tender was announced without the agency’s coordination.

He also noted that at this stage, the project has no funding foreseen for either this year or the next, and the agency did not include it in the budget proposals. Previously, the communities prepared a feasibility study and allocated part of the funds, which became a prerequisite for the tender announcement.

Sukhomlyn added that another tender, which concerns the repair of the T-09-06 road to Bystrica, is related to emergency bridges and damaged retaining structures. For 2024, it is planned to allocate UAH 75 million for this repair, but funding for the next year has not yet been provided.
