An outbreak of chickenpox has been detected in Ukraine: doctors recommend avoiding crowds

A new outbreak of chickenpox has been reported in Ukraine, with the most significant number of cases recorded in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. Over the past week, doctors have registered 109 new cases of this disease.

Chickenpox is an infectious disease that spreads through the air. The most vulnerable categories are children, especially in institutions such as kindergartens, schools, and clubs. However, adults who did not suffer from the disease in childhood or were not vaccinated can also get sick.

The main signs of the disease include increased body temperature, general weakness, headache, loss of appetite, and, later, a rash accompanied by itching. At first, the rash appears as spots that turn into blisters; later, they burst and form crusts.

Specialists urge people to consult a doctor at the first signs of the disease. Self-treatment can lead to complications, especially in adults or those with compromised immunity.

Doctors also advise avoiding large gatherings, especially in enclosed spaces, to reduce the risk of infection. Parents are advised to closely monitor their children’s health, as the virus spreads rapidly in educational institutions.

The Ministry of Health emphasizes that the most effective way to protect against chickenpox is vaccination. Although vaccination is not mandatory, it can be obtained in private clinics. The vaccine protects both children and adults who have not previously been ill.

Meanwhile, the incidence situation is under control in all regions. In the event of a deterioration in indicators, additional measures may be introduced to contain the spread of the disease.

Experts urge people to pay attention to symptoms, follow hygiene rules, and seek medical help if necessary.

In 2026, a free medical examination program for people over 40 will be launched in Ukraine, including a comprehensive health screening and providing 2,000 hryvnias in non-cash support to participants.
