Людмила Ковалевська: Енергетична незалежність Києва — ключове питання для виживання міста

Lyudmila Kovalevska: Kyiv’s energy independence is a key issue for the city’s survival

Kyiv plans to change its approach to electricity generation to reduce the risk of hostile attacks. In this regard, the city will focus on creating a network of small generation facilities rather than large, vulnerable power plants.

Kyiv City Council member Lyudmila Kovalevska noted that it is impossible to protect extensive facilities such as CHPP-5 or CHPP-6. Therefore, it is essential to change the strategy and adopt a more distributed energy system. According to her, “the best protection is distributed cogeneration,” which helps avoid serious consequences in the event of attacks.

One solution is to install small gas generators that are easier to disguise and protect from shelling. Next year, Kyiv plans to receive an additional 170 MW of electricity thanks to a decentralized network.

In addition, special attention will be paid to Kyiv schools. The following year’s budget provides funding for the autonomous operation of educational institutions. Solar panels will be installed on school roofs, and powerful energy-saving technologies will be installed inside the buildings.

Kovalevska emphasized that the school, using generators, faces problems with fuel costs. The introduction of solar panels will allow educational institutions to generate their own electricity, a significant step forward that will save money and ensure children have a stable education in difficult times.
