Trump canceled 100,000 visas in the US: who is affected by this decision?

Since Donald Trump returned to the White House in 2025, more than 100,000 visas for foreigners, including students and special workers, have been canceled. These actions involved individuals who had run afoul of the law in the United States or were associated with criminal activity.

The Trump administration continues the policy of restraint on immigration issues that was inherent in the previous administration. The US State Department announced on January 12 that it had canceled approximately 100,000 visas, including student and special workers.

The Department’s post published a photo of Trump with a comment about immigrants associated with crime: “We will continue to take action against these criminals to ensure the safety of the country.”

According to data provided by Fox News and Al Jazeera, the main reasons for the cancellation of visas were as follows:

8,000 student visas, of which 500 students were charged with the use and possession of prohibited substances;

2.5 thousand specialized work visas, half of which were canceled due to drunk driving, 30% – for assault and crimes, and about 20% – for child abuse, theft, drugs, and fraud;
6 visas – in connection with the incident involving the murder of political commentator Charlie Kirk.
More details about the reasons for the visa cancellations have not yet been released.

This wave of cancellations is part of Trump’s overall immigration policy. The State Department, led by Marco Rubio, also announced stricter requirements for obtaining visas to the United States.
