Disruption tactics: the expert explained the attacks on the energy system of Ukraine

Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center, said that Russia has changed its tactics of attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The occupiers have now abandoned chaotic strikes across the entire territory and switched to a systematic strategy, focusing their attention on individual regions. This allows them to keep large parts of the country without electricity for extended periods, creating severe difficulties for residents.

According to Kharchenko, the Russian troops first struck all over Ukraine, after which they tried to cut off the left bank from the right. However, over time, they developed a new strategy that focuses strikes on specific regions. This approach was tested in Odesa, where, following the attacks, the city was left without electricity for two weeks. Seeing the effectiveness of this tactic, the occupiers launched attacks on Kyiv.

Among the three key energy hubs on which the Russians are currently concentrating their strikes are Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, and Kryvyi Rih. The expert emphasized that large cities are the primary targets, as the destruction of energy facilities there has the most significant social consequences, depriving many people of light and heat.

It was also announced that Ukraine will receive thermal installations from Italy in two stages to help regions affected by the war.
