Attack near Kyiv train station: man kills soldier over sneakers
The Shevchenkivskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv has sent a case to court against a man who brutally attacked a serviceman near the Vokzalna metro station. After the attack, the victim received serious injuries, as a result of which he later died.
The investigation established that the incident occurred in April 2025 near the Kyiv railway station. During the investigation, it became known that a 27-year-old man from the Cherkasy region met a serviceman and, after a brief conversation, a conflict ensued.
During the argument, the accused struck the serviceman numerous times. When the victim fell and lost consciousness, the attacker took off his sneakers, put them on, and ran away. The attacker left his own shoes next to the victim.
The victim was urgently hospitalized, but despite medical assistance, he died in the hospital.
The accused is currently under arrest and has not been granted bail. His actions are qualified under Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which concerns robbery committed under martial law and causing grievous bodily harm.
According to the sanction of this article, such crimes are punishable by imprisonment for a term of 8 to 15 years with the possibility of confiscation of property.
It is worth noting that in October 2025, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv already considered a case against the same man, when compulsory medical measures were applied to him for killing a dog (Part 3 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the Shevchenkivskyi Police Department of the Main Directorate of the State Police in the capital.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the established procedure through a court verdict of guilty.
In the Lviv region, a case was also recorded where a man injured a military man during a document check using a kitchen tool.
