Lawyer in Kyiv to be tried for trying to influence VLK, receiving $25,000 for “unsuitability”

A pre-trial investigation has been completed in Kyiv against a lawyer accused of receiving money for promising to influence the decision of a military medical commission to declare his client unfit for military service.

According to the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, a resident of the capital approached a lawyer for assistance in updating his military registration documents. However, the lawyer offered another option: for a fee, he promised to “negotiate” the recognition of the man as unfit for service with his subsequent exclusion from military registration.

According to the investigation, the lawyer assured the client that he did not need to undergo a medical commission, since all issues would be resolved through his informal connections. For this “service,” he demanded 25 thousand US dollars.

Throughout February 2025, the suspect received payments in installments, culminating in the final payment, after which law enforcement officers detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

During the searches, the lawyer was also found to have ammunition: cartridges and several grenades that were stored illegally. His actions were classified under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Receiving unlawful benefits and illegal storage of ammunition.

The indictment has now been submitted to the court. If found guilty, the lawyer faces imprisonment.
