Why you should avoid dental treatment on February 14 and what men need to prepare: signs and prohibitions on Cyril
On February 14, according to the new church calendar, the day of remembrance of St. Cyril, the teacher of the Slavs, is celebrated. Together with his brother Methodius, he created the first alphabet for the Slavs.
This date was popularly called Kyrylo Vesnoukazchik because on this day, it was possible to predict spring weather.
Our ancestors noticed that if the weather is clear on this day, the autumn is expected to be cold. To keep the snow on the ground and saturate it with moisture, men went out into the fields to trample it. It was an ideal time to improve the country’s shrubs, and those without a plot should feed their houseplants.
On this day, they traditionally drank zbiten — a hot, sweet drink made from honey, herbs, and spices. Each family had its own recipe. Even today, you can prepare it yourself or buy it ready-made in a store. Whipped cream was prepared in various ways; the custard version is obtained by fermenting honey with additives, yielding a low-alcohol drink. On this day, husbands usually prepare it for their wives, enriching it with water from seven holy springs, grinding it with herbs in a golden stupa. Midwives were also respected, so do not forget to express gratitude to gynecologists.
It is also customary to bake pies with various fillings on this day. Guests are welcome, but must bring food, drink, or a small treat for the children. There is a belief that purchases made on February 14 will be successful and last a long time.
The people had a tradition of observing the weather on this day, because it indicated what spring would be like:
If it is sunny and warm, it means that frosts will come.
Severe frost to a hot summer;
If the birds are actively chirping, warming is expected.
It is believed that the weather on February 14 will also affect the weather in August. Special attention should be paid to dreams, as dreams on the night before this holiday are considered auspicious.
What should not be done on this day:
As on any church holiday, on this day you cannot quarrel, insult people or animals, or refuse help. The Church also disapproves of laziness, lies, greed, envy, despair, and the desire for revenge.
Among the folk signs, there is a recommendation to avoid dental treatment on this day, as it is believed it will not bring any benefit. You should also watch your statements so as not to offend anyone.
