The Ministry of Health has introduced a new option to save on medicines for Ukrainians
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine plans to introduce innovations in the electronic prescription system to help patients save on medicines. According to Order No. 116, which will come into force on January 31, 2026, within the next year, electronic prescriptions will be notified of the three lowest prices for necessary medicines from the National Price Catalog.
The changes will primarily affect tablet and capsule preparations containing a single active ingredient. From mid-February 2026, patients will be able to see prices for the three most affordable options. From April, information on prices will be extended to all dosage forms with one active ingredient; in May, to combination products with two substances; in June, to preparations with three active ingredients; and from July, to combination medicines without an international non-proprietary name or with four or more active ingredients.
In addition, the system will display prices for medicines that can be prescribed only by trade name. Thus, patients will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the most affordable drug options, helping them save on treatment without reducing therapy effectiveness.
The Ministry of Health emphasizes that these changes are intended to make the drug prescribing process transparent and understandable. This, in turn, will allow patients to reduce their drug costs, promote the effective use of medical products, and increase trust in electronic health systems.
