Pensions for Ukrainians will be increased: guaranteed payments will amount to 60% of salary
In Ukraine, some groups of people can receive significantly higher pensions from the budget than ordinary pensioners. This mainly concerns civil servants, for whom the pension can reach 60% of salary, while for most Ukrainians it is limited to 30%. These norms are stipulated in Law No. 889 “On Civil Service”.
Civil servants are persons who work in government bodies and perform state functions with budgetary financing. There are specific rules for calculating their pensions: the pension can be set at 60% of the average monthly salary. This differs significantly from the general conditions, where pension payments depend on the length of insurance and the amount of contributions paid. The general rules are set out in the Law on State Pension Insurance.
To receive a pension under these special conditions, civil servants must have a certain length of service. The right to such a pension arises if a person had at least 10 years of experience in public positions as of May 1, 2016, and was working in the civil service at that time. Another possibility is to have at least 20 years of experience in any civil service, regardless of status, on the specified date.
There are also age restrictions: men can receive a pension after 62 years, and women after reaching retirement age in accordance with current legislation. If all requirements are met, pension payments are accrued under a special mechanism that provides a higher level of material security than general norms.
