Resolution against Ukraine’s membership in the EU: expert opinion on the feasibility of negotiations with Hungary
The Hungarian Parliament has adopted a resolution protesting against Ukraine’s possible integration into the European Union and against financing its military needs at the expense of European countries. Experts note that in the new seven-year EU budget, the share of Ukraine’s funding may exceed 360 billion euros, which may be accompanied by a reduction in agricultural subsidies for Hungary.
Oleksandr Musienko, an expert in international relations, expressed his opinion on the importance of negotiations between Hungary, Slovakia and the EU, in particular regarding Hungary’s agricultural subsidies. He believes that it is necessary to establish contact to discuss how much money the Hungarian side needs for the next period and how they can cooperate to obtain them.
The expert also emphasized that Ukraine’s interests are a priority in joining the European Union, and resolving issues with subsidies may bring more benefits than complicating relations with Hungary. If Orban fears compromising materials, he called for openness in the dialogue, promising support.
Musienko further noted that the relevance of the negotiations is emphasized by the direct participation of the European Union, since it is necessary to find a common solution that will take into account the interests of all parties. In recent years, the EU has repeatedly shown activity in resolving complex issues through diplomatic channels, and now it is important to continue this course.
