The Supreme Court of Criminal Appeals may close more than 70 NABU cases due to investigation deadlines

The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court may decide to close more than 70 criminal cases investigated by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. The main reason is the expiration of the pre-trial investigation deadlines.

In judicial practice, there have already been cases where some proceedings were closed due to the expiration of the statutory investigation deadlines. In particular, three criminal cases were finally terminated for this reason. This is reported by the Telegram channel “Absolution Leaks”.

This may have serious consequences. It is known that in more than 70 cases the defense has already filed motions to close the cases, arguing that the pre-trial investigation deadlines have expired.

If the court decides in favor of the defense in these cases, this may lead to a mass closure of investigations that detectives and prosecutors were working on.

It should be noted that during the press briefing, the heads of anti-corruption agencies explained why a significant part of high-profile cases do not reach verdicts for years, and also discussed the impact of corruption on Ukraine’s defense capability.

As a result of the joint work of the SBU counterintelligence and NABU specialists, it was possible to expose a scheme for embezzlement of state funds at an important enterprise of the defense-industrial complex in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

The investigation established that the fraud concerned the purchase of metal raw materials for the production of weapons and ammunition for the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Currently, issues of choosing preventive measures are being considered. The perpetrators may face imprisonment for a term of up to 12 years with confiscation of property.
