Expert predicts transport collapse: return to britzkas

Ukraine is witnessing a rapid increase in fuel prices. A liter of gasoline at gas stations has reached 90 hryvnias, and the government has not yet shown any intention to intervene in this situation.
During a broadcast on the YouTube channel Popenko Pro, energy and housing and utilities expert Oleg Popenko expressed his indignation at the position of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada. He noted that officials have lagged behind real problems, justifying themselves with legislative norms of the market and the fact that increasing fuel prices automatically increases budget revenues.
Popenko mocks the logic of the authorities: “Let’s make gasoline 200 hryvnias, and the situation will be absolutely wonderful. But who will drive then? People will return to britzkas or saddles on horses,” – with these words the expert emphasized the absurdity of the existing approach.
But the problem is not only in high prices. According to Popenko, the state’s refusal to stabilize an important market during the war is a completely unjustified state position. Ignoring the fuel crisis not only hits Ukrainians’ pockets, but also weakens the country in the face of political instability.
This sharp jump in prices is already having real consequences. The logistics of delivering goods, the work of delivery services, and the transportation of people are under threat. If prices continue to rise unchecked, Ukrainians will be forced to change their habits, save on trips, or abandon cars in favor of more economical alternatives.
Popenko also noted that the increase in fuel prices, combined with high taxes, is effectively falling on the shoulders of the population, while the government is not offering any compensation. If the situation remains unchanged, the prices of gasoline and diesel may continue to rise, forcing Ukrainians to spend twice as much on everyday trips.
