SBI: servicemen engaged in commerce and car repair instead of performing their duties
The State Bureau of Investigation has uncovered a scheme to evade military service, in which, according to the investigation, the head of the Chernivtsi Military Hospital was involved. The official was detained, charged, and suspicions were also raised against two servicemen who, instead of performing their official duties, were engaged in “civilian” work.
Investigators note that the head of the hospital provided an opportunity for some servicemen to avoid service, allowing them not to show up for work and to engage in personal affairs. It was established that the agreements were concluded through acquaintances or relatives. Law enforcement officers are also checking information about possible illegal benefits received by the official for such “condescension”.
During the investigation, two servicemen were identified who were actually not performing their duties. One of them sold women’s headscarves at a market associated with the hospital head’s entourage, and the other worked at a service station.
According to the investigation, both servicemen were informed of suspicion of evading service during martial law. The head of the hospital is charged with aiding and abetting these offenses. The articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provide for a penalty of up to ten years in prison.
The pre-trial investigation continues. Law enforcement officers are establishing all the details of the case and checking the possible involvement of other servicemen and officials in this scheme. The procedural management of the criminal proceedings is carried out by the Chernivtsi Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Field of Defense of the Western Region.
