Ukrainians will be able to access the EU for a fee: what will the cost be?
Changes in the rules for entering the European Union for citizens of Ukraine – now obtaining a special permit for border crossings will be mandatory.
According to the new requirements, from now on, Ukrainians planning to visit Europe must apply for an ETIAS electronic permit. This is not a visa, but an electronic prior authorization that confirms the verification of the identity. With this document, even if you have a biometric passport, you will not be able to cross the border. The application for ETIAS must be submitted exclusively online via a specialized website or application, and payment must be made by card.
When applying, it is important to indicate all personal data, contact information, data on education or work, passport information and travel plans. Any error in filling out the application may result in a refusal without the possibility of a refund of the funds deposited, so you should be especially careful.
The cost of obtaining this electronic permit is 20 euros. Each citizen applies individually, group registration is not provided. In case of refusal, the money is not refunded, but there are a few exceptions: children under 18, people over 70 and relatives of EU citizens are exempt from paying.
ETIAS is issued for a period of up to three years or until the expiration of the passport. It allows multiple entries to over 30 European countries, but the length of stay is limited to 90 days within a six-month period. It does not allow you to work or live permanently with this permit.
Most applications are processed quickly, within a few minutes. However, sometimes the verification can be delayed – up to 4, 14 or even 30 days if additional verification or interview is required. Therefore, it is recommended to apply in advance to avoid possible inconvenience before departure.
