New deposit conditions: Ukrainians were told whether it is advisable to invest money in a bank now

In 2026, Ukrainians can expect changes in the financial market: banks plan to reduce interest rates on deposits. This will mean that keeping funds on deposits will become less profitable compared to recent months.

Financial experts warn of a possible drop in average rates by about 0.5% in the near future. By the end of spring, interest rates are expected to fall to 12.5–14% per annum, with a peak value of about 15.5%.

The main reason for such changes is the desire of banks to intensify lending to the economy. To do this, they need to reduce the costs of raising funds. Thus, interest rates on deposits are gradually decreasing.

The key factor that will influence this situation is inflation. If the inflation rate remains at a moderate level, even a reduction in rates can preserve the purchasing power of money. Forecasts indicate that by the end of the year, inflation may remain around 7.5%, which will allow for a small increase of 3–4% per annum.

The foreign exchange market is also important. The stability of the hryvnia exchange rate will support confidence in deposits in the national currency. Ukrainians are traditionally sensitive to exchange rate fluctuations, which often affects their decisions to place funds in banks.

Despite this, the war and general instability continue to affect people’s behavior. Due to constant risks, many depositors are not ready to “freeze” their funds for a long time. In 2026, short-term deposits, with a term of 6 to 9 months or a maximum of a year, may become the most popular.

It is for such terms that banks are likely to offer the most favorable conditions, which will allow depositors to respond faster to economic changes without exposing their funds to long-term risks.
