Ex-minister was given a preventive measure with a bail of UAH 63.7 million in the ‘virtual corn’ case
The court has chosen a preventive measure for the former Minister of Agrarian Policy, who is suspected of organizing a fraudulent scheme to sell grain.
According to the investigation, the perpetrators tried to sell products that did not actually exist. This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The former Minister of the Ministry of Agroindustrial Development of Ukraine was assigned a preventive measure in the form of arrest, with the possibility of paying a bail of 63.7 million hryvnias.
This bail amount corresponds to the total amount of losses, which are confirmed by expert opinions and the injured party.
Recently, law enforcement officers have raised suspicions not only against the former minister, but also against two other persons who were co-organizers and executors of the fraudulent scheme. All of them are accused of fraud on a particularly large scale.
According to the investigation, the suspects tried to sell 7 thousand tons of corn, which actually did not exist, using forged documents. It turned out that the elevator, according to these papers, allegedly filled with grain, in fact remained empty.
Regarding the other defendants in the case – the director of the agricultural enterprise and its technical manager – requests will also be submitted to the court to choose a similar preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of bail of 63.7 million hryvnias for each.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
In addition, an interregional channel for the sale of the narcotic substance kratom was discovered in Kyiv. During the searches conducted under the procedural guidance of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor’s Office, more than 1 ton of kratom, the value of which exceeds 9.5 million hryvnias, was seized.
