Fatal accident in Prykarpattia: the judge who ran over pedestrians at the crossing will be tried
The Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office sent an indictment to the court against the judge of the Pidgayets District Court of the Ternopil region, who was accused of violating traffic rules, which led to the death of a person.
According to law enforcement officers, the tragedy occurred on October 31, 2025 in the village of Fraga, in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The judge, driving a Lexus UX250h, exceeded the speed limit within the settlement without slowing down in the central part of the village.
On an unregulated pedestrian crossing, she ran into two local residents, who were 62 and 63 years old. As a result of the accident, one of the men died, and the other received minor injuries.
After the incident, the driver was detained. The very next day, November 1, on the instructions of the Deputy Prosecutor General, she was charged with suspicion in accordance with Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for imprisonment for a term of up to eight years.
The Ivano-Frankivsk City Court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of bail, the amount of which exceeds 1 million hryvnias.
The family of the victims also filed a civil lawsuit, demanding compensation for damages in the amount of 4.8 million hryvnias.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
It is worth noting that the State Bureau of Investigation has already started criminal proceedings in this case, regarding the traffic accident involving Judge Olga Lelyk, who, according to preliminary information, was driving a Lexus car and ran into pedestrians.
