One mistake leads to a 20% increase in fuel consumption: tips for reducing fuel consumption
With the increase in the cost of fuel, Ukrainian drivers are increasingly looking for ways to reduce costs. One of the most effective and simple ways to do this is the proper condition of the car’s wheels.
According to an expert from the YouTube channel “AvtoTema”, the car consumes much more energy if the tires are not inflated enough. This situation can be illustrated by comparing it to riding a bicycle with a flat tire – twice as much effort is required.
The expert pointed out that even a slight decrease in tire pressure can lead to an increase in fuel consumption by about 20%. A decrease in pressure creates an additional load on the engine, which causes an increase in fuel consumption. So regular tire pressure checks are key to saving money.
Usually, for passenger cars, the optimal pressure ranges from 2.0 to 2.5 bar; however, the specific value should be checked in the manufacturer’s manual, as it may vary by model.
There are several methods for checking tire pressure. The most accurate is to use a manometer: you need to remove the valve cap, press the device tightly and read the result. You can also use a compressor with a built-in pressure indicator, which allows you to inflate the tire immediately. At many gas stations there are automatic systems that independently bring the pressure to a given level. Many new cars are also equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), which reports deviations directly on the instrument panel.
Regular tire pressure checks will not only save fuel, but also increase road safety and extend the life of your tires.
