The declared fortune of Kateryna Filatova: an investigation against the background of consumer speculation

Recent news about Kateryna Filatova, the daughter of the mayor of Dnipro, attracted attention. The media and bloggers published information that three luxury properties near Lake Como in Italy were allegedly registered in her name, the value of which amounted to about 8.4 million euros. Mayor Borys Filatov objected, calling these statements untrue.

Blogger Ihor Lachenkov released information about Filatova’s property, claiming that she owns real estate, including a villa with 10-15 rooms and an outdoor pool. According to him, commission to intermediaries during the purchase could reach 500,000 euros.

Research by analysts revealed that no property of Kateryna Filatova was registered in the Italian registry. This could mean that either the property has already been overwritten or it never existed.

In addition, in his recent comment, Boris Filatov accused certain media and accounts of manipulation and predicted that this information could be aimed at discrediting Ukraine. Despite widespread rumours, no Italian assets were found in either the mayor’s declarations or his family’s.

The wealth of the Filatov family in Ukraine seems to be much smaller, in particular, it is limited to one apartment in Dnipro. No information about dual citizenship or real estate in Italy was found in Boris Filatov’s declarations. In turn, his wife recently received the right to reside in Italy, where, according to the declaration, she has open bank accounts.

To clarify the situation, the StopCor team sent a request to the mayor of Dnipro for an official response to these accusations.
