Kidnapping of Ukrainian children in Sylmar: Father can cross the border into Mexico
In Los Angeles, law enforcement officials believe that 39-year-old Rodion Kolomoyets may travel to Ukraine after the possible abduction of his children from a school in Sylmar.
This incident occurred on April 8, when the father picked up his children—9-year-old Avaora and 7-year-old Grant—from an elementary school on Hubbard Street. According to detectives, Kolomoyets lost custody of his children and got into a gray 2016 Toyota Prius with license plate 9PKY966.
After the abduction, authorities recorded that the car was last seen at the Mexican-U.S. border in San Ysidro around 2 p.m., about three hours after the incident.
Police provided a description of the children: Avaora has brown hair and blue eyes, is about 1.37 meters tall, and weighs 34 kg. She was wearing a blue T-shirt and black pants. Her brother Grant also has brown hair and blue eyes; he is approximately 1.22 meters tall, weighs about 23 kg, and was wearing a green and blue sweater and black pants at the time of his abduction.
The children speak Russian. They were reported to have been found near the border, but their father was not with them.
Detectives suspect that Rodion Kolomoyets, who is a citizen of Ukraine, may be trying to get to his homeland. He has brown hair and gray eyes and is about 1.80 meters tall.
