Prices for beets and carrots continue to rise rapidly

In Ukraine, the price of table beets, one of the key ingredients for traditional borscht, has significantly increased. The cost of milk carrots also grows, but the pace is less significant. The EastFruit project and the Ministry of Finance portal provide the relevant data.

Beet stocks in Ukraine are rapidly running out, and demand for them is growing. In this regard, farmers are raising wholesale prices every day.

As of today, the cost of beets ranges from 20 to 26 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 17% more expensive than last week. The price of the root crop has doubled compared to April 2024.

Market experts’ forecasts indicate a further increase in price since most farmers have already completed selling the harvest, and other product stocks continue to decrease.

Carrot Cost

The average price of carrots in Ukrainian supermarkets has increased from 42.11 to 42.90 hryvnia per kilogram. In some chains, prices have already reached 51 hryvnia per kilogram. Carrot prices have been showing an upward trend since the beginning of the year.

It was previously reported that cereal prices have increased—buckwheat, rice, and pasta have also become more expensive. Moreover, Ukrainians may face a lack of fish on the shelves, as stores have already raised prices for carp, mackerel, and herring.

This is particularly due to the difficult situation in Ukrainian agriculture, which is experiencing a shortage of fertilizers. This will negatively affect food production and reduce consumer wallets.
