Russia announces temporary ceasefire for Easter
Vladimir Putin declared a so-called “Easter truce” for the period from April 19 to 21, but on the very day this so-called truce began, Russia launched drone attacks on Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky considers this another attempt to manipulate trust and people’s lives.
According to Russian media, Putin announced the initiative to altogether cessation hostilities from 18:00 on April 19 to 00:00 on April 21, Moscow and Kyiv time, during a meeting with the Chief of the General Staff, Valery Gerasimov.
In his statement, Putin noted that he declared the ceasefire “for humanitarian reasons” and called on the Ukrainian side to join this initiative. However, he also warned of possible violations by Kyiv and noted that Russian troops should be ready for “aggressive actions.”
Zelenskyy responded to this statement by saying the following:
“Our forces continue to conduct active operations in the Kursk region and hold their positions. Our military has broken through and expanded the control zone in the Belgorod region. Regarding Putin’s latest attempt to play with people’s lives, an air alert has been declared throughout Ukraine. Today at 5:15 p.m., Russian strike drones were spotted in the sky. Ukrainian air defense and aviation are already working to protect. “Shaheeds” in our sky are Putin’s true attitude towards Easter and human lives.”
The situation in the country remains tense, and such statements from the Kremlin may be part of manipulative games or provocations.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends that residents of border regions avoid gatherings of people, especially near churches, industrial facilities, and administrative buildings. In the event of an air alert, citizens should urgently seek shelter. If you plan to attend religious services, find out in advance where protective shelters are located.
In areas where fighting is ongoing, it is advisable to refrain from visiting churches for your own safety and observe the curfew.
US Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick visited Ukraine, visited the front lines, and spoke with the military, leaving an inscription on a shell for Putin.
