”The real heroes are fighting here”: US Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick visits the frontline
US Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick made a surprise visit to Ukraine, visited the front lines, and left a symbolic message for the Russian president.
Fitzpatrick, a Republican, made an unannounced visit to Ukraine, where he spent several days in a combat zone near the Russian border. He met with Ukrainian soldiers and personally saw the consequences of Russian attacks. The parliamentarian said this on his Facebook account.
In the video, he said: “This is an area that the Russians recently occupied. There was a forest here, but now everything has burned down. This is what they do – destroy everything, leveling land plots and destroying civilian areas.”
Fitzpatrick stressed that the Ukrainian military continues to show incredible resilience and fighting spirit despite the difficult conditions.
“These are incredible people. The men and women who serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine have the same fighting spirit as American soldiers. They are fighting for democracy and freedom. We, Americans, must support them in this,” he says.
The congressman urged his colleagues not to limit themselves to visits to Kyiv but to come to the front lines to assess the situation.
Fitzpatrick noted that this was not his first visit to Ukraine and emphasized that the area he visited was one of the most dangerous.
During his stay on the front lines, the delegation came under enemy fire and was also spotted by Russian drones. Due to the threat, an emergency evacuation was necessary.
“This morning, we were in a specific area near the Russian border. We were attacked, and drones detected our location. We had to evacuate urgently. It was an agitated situation. But the Ukrainian military faces this every day. And they continue to fight because, like Americans, we value our freedom,” the congressman said.
In a video on social networks, Fitzpatrick signed a shell with the inscription “Peace through strength.” He noted that this shell became a personal message for the Russian president, which “was transmitted exactly to the target.”
Before traveling to the front on April 17, the congressman visited Kyiv unannounced after meetings in Poland and Turkey. In the capital, he held talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which the issues of achieving a just peace, the US initiative for a ceasefire, and security guarantees for Ukraine were discussed.
A memorandum was also signed between Ukraine and the United States, which provides for preparing an official agreement on using Ukrainian minerals.
