Mother Earth calls: the world unites for the planet on April 22
On April 22, the world community celebrates Mother Earth Day, an essential reminder of our shared planet and our responsibility to protect it. Today, millions of people participate in planting trees, cleaning streets, and giving up plastic.
This international day, launched in the USA in 1970, symbolizes the deep connection between humans and nature and our responsibility to protect it. In 2009, the United Nations officially recognized this date as Mother Earth Day.
It is celebrated in various ways in different parts of the world: some plant trees, others organize park cleanups, environmental forums, flash mobs, and marches supporting the climate. In Ukraine, schoolchildren and students are actively involved in greening, collecting recyclable materials, and teaching environmental awareness.
Today, it is essential to reduce consumption, limit the use of plastic and transport, and give nature a chance to recover. Every contribution, even the smallest, can positively impact the environment.
Green and blue colors symbolize land and water, which are the basic elements of nature. The official UN slogan for 2025 is “Planet above all.”
In addition, on April 18, the world celebrates International Monuments Day, during which humanity remembers the architectural, archaeological, and cultural heritage left by previous generations. This holiday was established in 1983 at the initiative of the International Council for the Conservation of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) under the auspices of UNESCO.
