Drivers will be confused: fines will increase significantly

Ukrainian law enforcement agencies are reminding drivers of the importance of adhering to speed limits, as fines for speeding violations have increased significantly. Under the new rules, if a driver exceeds the speed limit by 20-50 km/h, they face a fine of 340 hryvnias. If the speed is exceeded by more than 50 km/h, the fine rises to 1,700 hryvnias.

Starting from May 2023, the situation has become even stricter: if speeding results in a hazardous situation or an accident, the offender will face an additional fine of 1,445 hryvnias. As a result, a single speeding violation could cost a driver over 3,000 hryvnias.

Statistics show that excessive speed is one of the leading causes of serious road accidents in Ukraine, with about one-third of such incidents resulting from drivers ignoring established speed limits.

Particular emphasis is placed on caution within cities and villages, where the maximum speed limit is set at 50 km/h. Even minor speeding in these areas can pose a serious danger to pedestrians and cyclists.

Additionally, in 2025, the number of automatic speed enforcement cameras is expected to increase, making it even more difficult for violators to avoid penalties. Law enforcement urges drivers to remain attentive and control their speed, especially in conditions of poor visibility, rain, slippery roads, or heavy traffic.

It is also worth noting that recent changes in legislation have introduced stricter penalties for other types of traffic violations.
